MUMBAI: People got to know the “real me” through 'Bigg Boss', slain BJP leader Pramod Mahajan's son Rahul Mahajan said on Wednesday, justifying his decision to leave the reality TV show.
“I am honest, genuine. People also saw my naughty side,” Rahul said, adding “you love me, hate me but you cannot ignore me.”
Rahul's exit comes after he declined to tender an apology for his “misconduct” of leaving the 'Bigg Boss' house along with three other finalists.
'Bigg Boss' had sought an apology from Rahul Mahajan, Raja Chaudhary, Zulfi Syed and Ashutosh Kaushik, who had dodged the vast array of cameras at the house in Lonavala, against rules and regulations of the game show.
“I was told that only three people could stay in the house after that episode. I volunteered to quit. There is satisfaction in sacrifice,” Rahul said.
“We all went out of the house not because of anger but because of hunger,” Rahul said. He thanked the show's producers “for the opportunity to let people know what the real Rahul is all about.”
Stating that money was not the objective of his appearing on the show, Rahul said, “Even if I had won the Rs one crore prize money, I would have given it away in charity.”
On his much-publicised on-screen bonding with starlet Monica Bedi, Rahul referred to gangster Abu Salem's former flame as “just a friend.”
“Friendship can be pure. I respect her,” he said.
Stating that he stood by the decision to quit the show, Rahul said, “I made the sacrifice for my friends on the show.”
“I wish Ashutosh wins the show,” he added.
“I never needed publicity,” said Rahul, who had come into limelight for all the wrong reasons after his father's death. Shortly after Pramod Mahajan's death, there were drug abuse charges against Rahul.
Rahul and three others “escaped” from the 'Bigg Boss' house on Saturday and in Sunday's episode viewers could see the four housemates climbing the wall of the house. The next visual showed them entering the house.
