In an 'honest' chat with masala.com, he denies being in a relationship with Monica Bedi and reveals who he’ll vote for on Bigg Boss
by Sonia Sharma
Rahul Mahajan made news all through his stay at the Bigg Boss house and departed too with the spotlight on him.
Just days before the finals of the reality show, which he was widely tipped to win, he staged a housebreak and was subsequently asked to leave when he refused to apologise about his act.
During his 80 odd days in the house Rahul was most importantly noticed for his relationships with fellow housemates Payal Rohatgi and Monica Bedi.
Unmindful of the cameras, he made overt romantic overtures towards them.
However, now that he’s out of the show, equally dramatically he’s done a complete U-turn on his relationship with Monica Bedi.
Even as Monica Bedi felt that there was something more in the relationship with Rahul, which she would realise after his exit from Bigg Boss, Rahul has revealed, in an exclusive interview with masala.com, that he did not have any relationship more than friendship with anyone on the show.
Excerpts…
When are you getting married?
Well my mother will decide when my marriage will take place.
So what was the romance with Monica Bedi and earlier with Payal Rohatgi all about?
Well we did it in a lot of jest. It was done in a fun mood. Monica and Payal are as friendly to me as everyone else on the show.
But your relationship with Monica seemed genuine and you even proposed to her?
I do not know what exactly was shown on TV. But I must assure you that I am a very genuine person and have nothing wrong in my mind. I have no intention of cheating anyone.
You pursued 'friendship' with Monica despite her past relationship with Abu Salem.
Yes. She is a friend. Friendship does not care about what the person's past has been. I am not afraid of anyone when I want to have a friendship with her; and more so when her friendship with me was just as good as my friendship with Raja or Payal.
You also massaged of Payal Rohatgi's legs on the show.
Yet again, one does not know how much was shown on the show. It was around 45 minutes out of the 24 hours. So if that occupied the maximum time on the air space, I have nothing to say. All I can say is that I have a clean mind. I am an honest and a good guy and have no evil intentions at all. If anyone has been upset or angry, I am very sorry.
Your politician uncle Gopinath Munde is very upset because he felt that all this drama could affect your political future?
No he is not angry. He is in Rajasthan and has no issues.
How has your mother reacted?
Well, I am answerable only to my mother. She said she was proud of me. Case closed.
You were all over the place on Bigg Boss.
Love me, hate me, but you cannot ignore me. I have done everything on the show. I have been a very mischievous person. I have been a naughty guy as well, I was very childish as well. But as I left the show I really became a very mature person.
I showed what it is to take responsibility and stand up for your people.
If we broke out of the house that day and Zulfi and Raja were being nominated for it, I cannot take it. For me it is not the correct thing to happen.
Why didn't you apologise? Was what you did not wrong because you broke the rules of the game?
I don't think what I did on that day in the situation that I was faced with was incorrect.
On that day when there was no proper food. There was no water in the bathroom and I had already lost a lot of weight on the show and was feeling unwell. I did what I felt was right.
We were very hungry and were faced with starvation. We broke the door and the Bigg Boss called us but nothing was done. So we decided to go off.
On any other day, it could have been some other decision. On that day we had decided that we wanted to get out of the house and get good food. That decision was taken only after we had asked Big Boss for food.
We did a bit of Gandhigiri as well. We asked Bigg Boss, then we read the Hanuman Chalisa as well. We also sung Raghupati Raghav Rajaram and only when there was no response, we took a decision of going out to eat.
Do you regret it?
See I had not come to the show for the money. I would have anyway given it to charity. I am a man of my word. So I left.
Was it a publicity stunt?
See I came there to create a good name for myself. I don't need publicity at ball. I have always been a Page 1 person. I don't need to come to Page 3.
How much of what we saw was acting?
Nothing. From being a 'Krishna' to maturity, everything was me.
If you had won you could have given it to charity. Others won't.
I understand. But someone being punished for my sake wasn't right. Raja and Zulfi were nominated. It wasn't fair. So I left.
Who do you want to win and who will you vote for?
When I was leaving the house, I asked Raja I wanted to vote for him. But he suggested that I vote for Ashu and get him to win. He has no place to stay otherwise. He has no proper place to stay. He sleeps in a vehicle at times and gets Rs200 per day for running the Dhaba where he is at the moment. How can a man like that survive? So I am going to vote for him and want him to win as well.
Bookies had put their money on you and you spoilt their plans.
I don't think it is right to talk about bookies and betting because it is illegal.
Will you be entering politics?
No plans at the moment. But if the country needs me, I will be there.
